British Gas, the top energy supplier British launched a 15 million £ project to install free solar systems in 1100 primary and secondary schools.
For each school will be allocated between £ 20,000 and £ 40,000 pounds for the installation of solar systems over the next five years.
British Gas estimates that the system will generate about 1.3 million pounds per year. This amount will be reinvested by the British Gas Energy for Tomorrow Trust a nonprofit institution. Tomorrow Trust will invest in low carbon projects.
"This is the biggest investment of its kind in solar technology for our nation's schools, which will help them cut both their carbon emissions and their electricity bills - as well as learn about renewable energy in a hands-on way," commented Phil Bentley, managing director at British Gas.
Based on evaluations British Gas could install between 4 MW and 7MW total in the first five years.
