The income will boost energy efficiency and power reliability. Leading power and automation technology group ABB announced $22 million orders from Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited.
The Indian state-owned power utility in the North part of the country, purchased four turnkey substations for the regional grid.
The four substations provided by ABB will transmit electricity from new power generation plants in the region. This program is part of a significant plan to improve energy efficiency and strengthen India’s transmission network. The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development is financing the Haryana Power System Improvement Project which is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2011.
The four 220 kilovolt air-insulated substations provided by ABB will come equipped with IEC 61850-compliant automation, protection and control systems.
The scope of the project covers design, supply, installation and commissioning of the substations and associated equipment, which includes switchgear and power transformers.
Peter Leupp, head of ABB's Power Systems division commented: "These substations will help to enhance the reliability and efficiency of the transmission network in the state, improving power supplies to consumers and supporting economic development in the region.”
ABB is the world’s leading supplier of air- and gas-insulated substations, which are key installations in the power grid. They transform voltage levels and facilitate the safe and efficient transmission and distribution of electricity.
