SunPower announced that its solar modules and systems were selected for installation in several properties belonging to U.S. government.

It's about the locations under the leadership Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Lab, General Services Administration (GSA), Navy, and Air Force.

The company says that these contracts have a minimum of 20MW of new solar projects, and that the project could create over 1,000 local construction jobs.

SunPower will design and build a photovoltaic system of 2MW for NREL to the new research facility located in the lab’s campus in Golden, CO.

SunPower has also chosen to be one of the five suppliers of solar products for an indefinite period in an indefinite amount, of the Naval Facilities Command to deliver solar PV systems by Navy and Marine Corps the southwestern United States.

"SunPower has worked with federal agencies since 1999, resulting in the installation of more than 20MW of solar power systems at government facilities",  said Karen Butterfield, SunPower's director of federal accounts.

"As a result, SunPower has the experience and credibility to successfully navigate the federal procurement process and deliver reliable, high-performance solar systems that meet agency requirements. With the addition of a U.S.-based panel manufacturing facility this year, we have also bolstered our ability to serve this growing demand."
