Carrier Corp., a global provider of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems, recently released the new CO2OLtecTM refrigeration system.

The system was developed within the frame of the German incentive program for commercial refrigeration systems using natural refrigerants.

According to the Carrier’s announcement, CO2OLtec system is designed for environmental sustainability, efficiency, and reliability and ensures lifecycle cost reductions in Central and Northern European climates as compared with conventional refrigerant systems. As a result, CO2OLtec technology has expanded fast as more food retailers use sustainable technologies in their stores.

The German incentive program enables the total net investment cost of a supermarket refrigeration system to be reduced by 25%. EDEKA Hovener and HIT Koblenz are two of the food retailers who took advantage of these opportunities and implemented the innovative, economical CO2 refrigeration technology.

"As a businessman, my decision to choose CO2 as a refrigerant was based on environmental aspects, and above all, the opportunity to save between 10 and 12 percent on energy costs," declared Heinz Hovener, owner of EDEKA Hovener. "The use of CO2 as a refrigerant is environmentally sustainable, safe and energy-efficient. In addition, greenhouse gas emissions, caused by refrigerants, can be completely avoided when climate-neutral refrigerant is used, compared to conventional systems," added Lothar Klopsch, CEO of sales, HIT Handelsgruppe Siegburg.
