Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation and Prism Solar Technologies of Highland, NY, announced it signed a cooperation agreement on three years.
Tis agreement consists in research and development of a $ 190,000 project, regarding the testing of solar panels efficiency with Solar Prism's holographic film.
The two companies are to install monitor and compare three equal power solar systems, each using a different design: a holographic bi-facial solar cells (Prism design module), a holographic mono-facial solar cells, and a conventional crystalline silicon solar system.
Prism said that the two holographic systems will provide more electricity than conventional photovoltaic systems in all lighting conditions.
According to the company, Prism Solar replaces most holographic film silicon cells required in a solar module resulting in a module at about half of the price of conventional.
Holographic modules can produce 20 to 40 percent more power per watt, by selecting the appropriate wavelength of light and concentrate on solar cells.
The three 2.5-kilowatt solar systems to be installed in the central station Coldenham Hudson in Orange County, New York in early autumn 2010.
Data on electricity production and weather conditions will be sent to Prism, and used to analyze the relative effectiveness of the three panels.
