EU: EnBW Baltic 2 wind park calls for Alstom Grid

A consortium led, among others, by Alstom Grid, announced Monday it has won a contract for building and connecting a high voltage station (OHVS) for offshore windfarm company EnBW.

This command will be carried out in consortium with steel company WeserWind GmbH Offshore Construction Georgsmarienhutte de Bremerhaven (Germany), to produce housing, steel structures and most ancillary equipment necessary for the platform functioning that will provide "offshore" installation services of the platform.

The terms "self-floating" and "Self-Installing"' are recognized by "offshore" industry platforms. The first term means independently floating position. Once arrived in position, no crane or lifting equipment is required to install or lift platform above sea level to the height of its operation.

EnBW (Erneuerbare Energien GmbH), the third largest German Company in energy sector, has been awarded the project construction, installation and grid connection of a 155/33 kV station for its "Baltic EnBW 2" windfarm of 288 MW ( 80 turbines), located about 30 km north of the island of Ruegen, off the Baltic Sea.

Connection to the land and regional grid management will be done through an HVAC system (high voltage alternating current).

This innovative solution offers benefits in terms of mining and construction (requires no lifting cranes, etc..), thus eliminating the constraints and slowing the time of installation.

"This is our second contract of this type of offshore platform. Our customers are aware that we have developed innovative technologies with our partners in the consortium, as was shown by this command. In the following years, floating platform technology should become a standard market, rapid growth, the offshore wind", said Michel Augonnet, vice president of Alstom Power Grid.

Alstom will provide grid power transformers, equipment for gaseous insulation for medium and high voltage, and automation services for the platform protection and control systems for 80 wind-command. The platform will be equipped with landing dock for boats and a bridge helicopter landing. During the "offshore" wind farm operation and  it will be used as a logistics platform.
