DeWind won a $30 million order for 10 units of 2-MW-scale wind turbines from Little Pringle) in the U.S

DeWind is a wind turbine manufacturer, subsidiary of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Energy. The company announced it has received a $30 million order to deliver 10 units of 2-MW-scale wind turbines from Little Pringle in the U.S.

The order will be delivered early this year to be installed in the Little Pringle wind farm, in the Panhandle region of Texas. DeWind expects to begin generating commercial power this summer.

The DeWind D8.2 will produce a total capacity of 20 MW. The D8.2 turbines convert the variable speed of the wind rotor into constant speed with a synchronous generator, which is directly connected to the grid. A complex electronic component is thus replaced by a low-wear drive system without any power electronics.

YoungYoul Goh, chief strategy officer of DSME, stated: “This transaction is the latest step in a sequence of events focused upon establishing a strong beachhead for DSME, and for DeWind turbine deployment in the U.S. and signifies the reintroduction of the DeWind products to the U.S. market. It is the first of many new turbine orders expected subsequent to DSME’s acquisition of DeWind Co in late 2009. DeWind will continue to focus on leveraging the complementary strengths of DSME to close and complete wind turbine orders in 2010 and beyond.”
