According to Danish Energy Agency data, the country’s onshore wind power capacity increased with 97 MW last year, while the offshore wind power capacity increased with 237 MW.

Data show that the wind energy produces approximately 20% of the total electricity consumption in Denmark. Still, there is a long way to achieving the goal of the Danish Wind Industries Association (DWIA), which is 50%, and will require an annual grow of about 160 MW onshore wind capacity.

The total offshore wind farms power capacity in EU was 577 MW in 2009, of which 230 MW are generated in Denmark alone, according to DWIA data.

The wind turbines supplied by Siemens Wind Power and Vestas Wind Systems made for 89.5% of the total installed power capacity of wind farms in 2009.

At the end of 2009, Denmark had a total of 305 offshore wind turbines, ranking first in EU, seconded by UK with 287 turbines.
