EU : EDF EN and Alstom allies in launching offshore wind

Alstom and EDF EN have signed an exclusive contract in order to answer the call for projects covered by the French government, in offshore wind energy.

The joint initiative is focused on achieving future offshore wind farm, developed by EDF EN and its partners, equipped with turbine parks "offshore", manufactured exclusively by Alstom.

The project is part of the government's installation in France, of 6000 MW wind power "offshore", until 2020.
Thus, under the contract, Alstom has to ensure the delivery of 6MW wind turbines, using technologies that are available on the market since 2013.

Industrial project could, equally, lead to the creation in France of several factories producing and assembling components; the project aims to bring other industry actors, such as R&D systems (research and development) or engineering.

The company EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF EN) will come with experience in wind energy "offshore".
Currently, two major projects are underway:
- C Power Project (developed in Belgium), a wind farm in the sea, of 325 MW (of which 30 MW are operational), in progress;
- Teeside Project (developed in the UK), of 67 MW, whose construction starts.

"We have experience in wind energy and our offshore technology will enable the provision of electricity at a competitive price. Alstom Company is ready to develop, starting in France, an industrial chain generating jobs and exports", said Philippe Cochet, Senior Vice-President of "Alstom Hydro & Wind".
